Term 2 Newsletter

Welcome
A warm welcome back to families for the start of a new term. This is a ten week term and we have a lot to fit in.  So it will be go from the first day!

Inquiry
We will be continuing with our environmental inquiry around ‘We Can Make a Difference’. Room 13 decided that something we could make a difference with, in a short period of time, would be to get our school worm farm working and start recycling our food scraps. The children were also keen to establish a butterfly garden which we will look into and possibly use the fetiliser produced from our worm farm to yield healthy plants.

Trip to Bromley Eco-depot – Monday 30th April (9:00-12:00)
Your child brought home a letter about our trip to Bromley Eco-depot today. Plaease could all permission slips be brought back ASAP. We do require assistance with parental transport to make this trip possible and would appreciate offers of help. The children will also require one empty plastic 1.5l soft drinks bottle to take on the trip. Please can you bring any empty bottles you have to class this week.

Reading
It is good to see the children doing so well with their reading and we appreciate the home support given to the reading programme. Please continue to fill in the orange log books each day. Our library day will continue to be on Thursday afternoon, with the library also opening at lunchtimes for children to change books.

Goal Setting
Last term the children bought home their goal setting sheets, which we will continue to work on and these will be reviewed towards the end of the term.

Spellings
This term’s spellings will link with the class phonics programme based on short and long vowel sounds and the associated spelling patterns that go with them. Homework will continue as usual. Housepoints are given on a Friday to those children who can be seen to have practised their homework in their book and produced quality work.

Mathematics
We will be focussing on geometry for the first two weeks, then numeracy for the next 7 weeks and finishing the term with 1 week of measurement.

News Groups
This term the children will continue to be able to share personal / weekend news on a Monday. They are able to bring a non-precious item to share on this day. Wednesdays will be Buzz Group day and this term’s focus will be based on nature beginning with insects/minibeasts in week 2.
