Dear Parents / Caregivers,
Term 3 Newsletter
Welcome back to the start
of a new and exciting term. We hope you have all had a relaxing holiday break
with your children.
Inquiry
This term we will be
focussing on 2 topics. The first part of the term will be looking at the
Olympics. In the second half of the term we will be looking at East Africa and
in particular a school in North Tanzania, where a previous teacher from St
Albans is currently working. If
any families have anything to contribute to these topics we welcome additional
resources.
Spelling for Term 3
For the first 2 weeks of
term we will continue to focus on long and short vowel sounds and the spelling
patterns associated with these. We will then move on to look at suffixes (ed,
ing), plurals and contractions. Please continue to support your child’s
homework and weekly spelling test on Friday.
Reading
Children will continue to
work in groups at their reading level. We appreciate you hearing your child
read each day and filling in the log book. Poetry books will continue to come
home on Fridays.
Maths
The core classroom
programme will cover time and numeracy. It is great to see that some children
have used the studyladder website over the school holidays. We will continue
with this in class time and the children will certainly benefit from using it.
School Photos –
Wednesday 25th July
This has now been
rescheduled to take place a week Wednesday. Could you please ensure that your
child comes to school in the correct winter uniform including a St Albans
School sweatshirt or cardigan.
Parent / Teacher
Interviews
Thank you to all the
families who attended the interviews held in the last week of term.
Poetry Competition
This term the middle
syndicate will be holding its annual poetry contest. Each child will be asked
to select a poem to learn from memory. The class competition will be held at
the end of week 3 with the finalists going through to the year 3/4 finals competition on Thursday 9th
August.
News for Term 3
Mondays –
personal/weekend news
The children may bring one
non-precious item to share.
Wednesdays – Buzz Groups
It was great to see the
effort the children made with their ‘Buzz Group’ news last term. This will be
continuing again this term with the current week’s focus, along with the
following week’s focus being included on the Home/Learning sheet. This should
give the children plenty of time to prepare. The children should be able to
share, in their own words, at least 3 facts about the chosen topic and can
also bring along pictures or a book relating to their information.
Thank You
We appreciate all the
support parents have given throughout the term and look forward to a productive
and adventurous term together.
Kind regards,
Judy Calder and Julie Worthington
