Term 3 Week 11

Notes and Reminders

Buzz Groups (Wednesday) – the topic for the final week of term is free choice.

Maths – this week we will be focusing on geometry, looking at patterns that involve translations, reflections and rotations.
Last week the children completed a timed basic facts assessment, similar to the sheet that they brought home earlier in the term. It was pleasing to see that most children showed significant improvements in both speed and accuracy. We have included your child’s results so that that you are able to see whether this is an area that they would benefit from additional practice in.

_______________ completed the Stage 5 assessment and scored      /60 in ___ m. ___s.

Spelling – there will be no spelling homework for the final week of term.

Library – due to the STA games Room 13’s library day will be Tuesday this week. The children will be encouraged to select two new books to read over the school holidays. Please can you check that your child has their library books at school on Tuesday, so that they are able to select some new ones. Thank you.

Reading – will continue as usual this week, up until Wednesday.  Please could all reading books be returned to school on Thursday. The children are encouraged to read books from home or the library over the school holidays and continue to fill in their reading log book.

STA Games – is on this Thursday. Room 13 and our buddy class Room 2 are representing New Zealand (which shouldn’t be too difficult!). The children are asked to wear their house colour for the day, however they are welcome to bring along a New Zealand flag or another small item that represents New Zealand to hold/wave at the opening ceremony. All items must be named. If you are creative with the face paints the children are welcome to come to school with a NZ decoration on their face. The children will also need to wear sensible shoes for sports. Lunchtime will be at 12:00 and for those children who have placed an international food order these will be distributed by the P.T.A. Families are welcome to join us for lunch. Further information is included in last week’s school newsletter.

Thesara – congratulations to Thesara for making it through to the finals of the St Albans School Talent Quest with her Sri Lankan dance.

Ashley – this will be Ashley’s last week at St Albans School and her final day will be Thursday. We wish Ashley and her family all the best with their move to Australia.

We hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable school holiday.

Maths Focus (week 11 and school holidays)
Practice quick recall of basic facts
Practise learning the times tables.
(Studyladder games can be used to practise these areas of mathematics).
