First of all we met Chris who talked to us about different types of worms and where they live in the soil.
Then we had a go at digging in the soil for earthworms. We had to be very careful not to cut the worms otherwise they would die.
Afterwards Chris showed us some tiger worms and we compared them to the earthworms that we had found. Tiger worms live on the top of the soil and it was these worms that we needed to make our mini worm farms.
When we got back to class we wrote our own set of instructions for making a mini worm farm to add to our class Blog. We had to try to use different verbs to begin each step.
How to make a worm farm.
What you need:
- plastic bottle
- scissors
- newspaper
- selotape
- water
- bucket
- soil
- tiger worms
What you do:
1. Cut the top off a plastic bottle.
2. Hold a piece of newspaper landscape way and fold the top over.
3. Wrap a sheet of newspaper around the bottle and tape the sides together.
4. Tear some newspaper into thin strips.
5. Soak the newspaper in a bucket of water.
6. Take out a medium size handful of newspaper and squeeze the water out.
7. Put the damp newspaper in the bottom of the plastic bottle.
8. Add some soil on top.
9. Place five tiger worms into the bottle.
10. Scoop some soil into the top off the bottle.
11. Sprinkle some seeds on top.
12. Water your seeds and your worm farm is completed.

What a wonderful trip you had. You are so lucky to have made your own worm farms. Now you'll be able to use your experiences and knowledge to help make our school a better environment so we're lucky too! Thanks
